Description

Ascending through Forested Areas:

The trail starts with an ascent through forested areas. The lush greenery and the sounds of nature create a peaceful atmosphere as you make your way through the Kii Mountains.
Passing through Rural Landscapes:

As you trek further, you'll pass through rural landscapes with terraced fields, small villages, and traditional Japanese houses. This part of the route offers a glimpse into the daily lives of local communities.
Encountering Oji Shrines:

Along the way, you may come across more Oji shrines, which are smaller shrines associated with larger pilgrimage sites. Take some time to pay your respects and appreciate the historical and spiritual significance of these places.
Climbing to the Ogumotori-goe Pass:

One of the challenging but rewarding sections of this part is climbing to the Ogumotori-goe Pass. From this vantage point, you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
Descending to Hongu:

After reaching the Ogumotori-goe Pass, the trail descends towards the Kumano Hongu Taisha area. The descent can be steep at times, so exercise caution while navigating this part of the route.
Approaching Kumano Hongu Taisha:

As you approach Kumano Hongu Taisha, you'll see the magnificent torii gate, which is one of the largest wooden torii gates in Japan. The sight of the gate against the backdrop of the forest is truly awe-inspiring.
Arriving at Kumano Hongu Taisha:

The section concludes upon reaching Kumano Hongu Taisha, one of the three grand shrines of Kumano. This sacred site is a significant pilgrimage destination and a place of spiritual importance for many travelers.
