Description
The Rowe Lakes trailhead is found at a well marked parking area along Akamina Parkway. To start, the trail heads off into a regenerating burn area (Kenow wildfire 2017). Enjoy the bright magenta fireweed as you go. Rowe Creek is next to the trail for a very short ways before the trail veers away from the creek, but continues to follow it upstream for its entire length. Likewise, the trail climbs gradually for its entire length.
One soon leaves the burn area behind and enters beautiful forest with lush undergrowth. Rowe Creek is down in the valley to the left/south, but not close enough to be seen or heard. This area is buried in rugged mountains that can be seen nearby through the trees along the way. Very impressive...
At the 2.4 mile mark the trail comes to a trail junction with a short spur trail to the left/south, that leads to Lower Rowe Lake. Go straight ahead here to continue on Rowe Lakes Trail. After another 0.9 miles Rowe Lakes Trail emerges from the forest to cross a small meadow and come to a bridge across Rowe Creek. Here the trail ends at the Upper Rowe Lakes Spur trail that leads to the two Upper Rowe Lakes. The trail that goes up Lineham Ridge and beyond -
Tamarack Trail, is also found here after crossing Rowe Creek.
Flora & Fauna
