Overview
This route goes through the Plateau de Bellevue, the cirque itself and goes all the way to the main waterfall. It is quite a long trail but definitely worth it to see the cirque from all different viewpoints!
Need to Know
- Paid parking at the village entrance
- Route offers partial shade
- ⚠️ Dogs are not allowed in the waterfall valley despite being allowed in the lower valley

Trail running friendly
Description
The route uses multiple official trails:
- Start with the
Plateau de Bellevue Loop
- At 4.3km/2.6mi, leave the loop trail at the fork. Follow the new trail until you reach the creek and its bridge at 4.7km/2.9mi.
- You'll then enter a wooden area. There are multiple smaller trails there, they all lead to the end of the
Cirque de Gavarnie Trail.
- Pass the hotel and follow
Gavarnie Falls – Meadow Trail.
- Once at the waterfall, turn around. Follow the
Gavarnie Falls – Meadow Trail back to where it started
- Follow the
Cirque de Gavarnie Trail back to the village. Don't forget to turn around along the way back to get breathtaking views of the cirque!
