Within Blackwater State Park requiring fee to access this area.
Need to Know
State park has an entry fee. I think the pavilions can be reserved for groups or parties.
Runner Notes
Trail has short steep up and down washes. There are leaves, pine needles and sticks on the sandy soil. Roots are exposed in places and a few steps have been added to prevent falls.
Description
Trail leads between the Blackwater State Park Campground and boardwalk to Pavilions for Picknicking and river swimming beach access. You could start at either end but public parking is only at the pavilions end. This loop trail has a steep up and down path with sand and roots.
The loop has educational placards describing the formation of the oxbow lake and others that describe the plants and animals. Has a short side trail down to Blackwater River. The Pavilion boardwalks lead to reserved pavilions with power, water and bathrooms. These boardwalks continue on to a beach access area on the Blackwater River that is great for swimming.
Flora & Fauna
Turtles, snakes, birds, fish, frogs. Cypres trees, pine trees, flowers and water plants.
