The park is open daily from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. A Minnesota State Parks vehicle permit is required. An annual permit is $35/year. A daily permit is $7, payable at the entrance kiosk. Not all of the trails here are open to hiking year-round; some become ski trails in winter. Hiker accessible trails are shown on different summer and winter maps.
Need to Know
There are named and unnamed trails in this park. The major trail intersections of all trails are labeled with a letter - these letters appear on the park maps and on posts at each major junction. There are also maps posted at each junction.
Description
From the Trail Center, the Anderson Hill Trail descends for 0.2 mi to a junction with the
Kettle Kame Trail (Intersection M). The trail then goes north, through Intersection L, across the park's main road, to Intersections C and then B, about 1 mi from the Trail Center. At Intersection B, the Anderson Hill Trail and the
Big Woods Loop Trail become one and, together, turn south toward Anderson Hill.
You have the option of swinging west around the hill or following a steep trail directly to the top of the hill. Going to the hill's top is recommended as it offers the biggest view in the park. From the hill, the trail continues south, crosses the park's main road again (at Intersection A), and continues south and then east through Intersections N, R, and Q back to the Trail Center.
