Need to Know
To get to the parking area from State Highway 53, at Rathdrum:
- Turn north on McCartney St.
- Then go right onto Oneida St.
- Then go left onto Reservoir Rd.
- And finally go left onto Barrett Dr. that ends at the parking area.
After parking, go to the road and walk down it about a tenth of a mile, to find Majestic Passage.
The lower half of Majestic Passage goes through the Disc Golf Course. Thus the trails can be confusing, some are part of the Disc Golf Course and not part of Majestic Passage.
Description
An orange sign on the side of the road marks the start of Majestic Passage. This is also an entry into the wooded Disc Golf Course. Follow the wide trail beyond the gate and head toward hole #1 of the Disc Golf Course, to start running Majestic Passage. Majestic Passage is a beautiful forest trail for its entire length.
North Fork of Spring Creek is crossed on a little wooden bridge at the 0.15 mile mark. Immediately after the bridge, an unmarked trail is to the left - take this trail to continue on Majestic Passage. Other trails at this junction are part of the Disc Golf Course. From here Majestic Passage follows North Fork of Spring Creek upstream, as it travels through the Disc Golf Course.
Just keep following the trail upstream and don't get sidetracked into the Disc Golf Course's paths to its many holes. This whole section is in the very well-shaded creek valley with huge cedars, hemlocks, and other shade loving trees.
A trail junction with
Reservoir Ridge Trail on the left, is passed at the 0.35 mile mark. This is the end of the Disc Golf Course area. Continue straight here to stay on Majestic Passage. Still running along the creek through the tall cedars and hemlocks, an unmarked trail fork is reached at the 0.55 mile mark. Veer right at this trail junction.
Now heading away from the creek, the trail climbs noticeably for a short ways. The trail is still shaded, but more sun gets through the tree canopy now. At the 0.65 mile mark, a little less than a quarter mile of civilized switchbacks begin to climb the steep forested hillside ahead. The trail breaks out of the trees at the 0.85 mile mark to cross a grassy road, and then re-enters the forest on the other side, but only temporarily.
To finish off, the trail turns left, emerges from the trees into an open area, and then ends at
Stormking Parkway after a total of 0.9 miles.
Flora & Fauna
Dense, moist, creek valley dominated by majestic, tall western red cedars and hemlocks. At the lowest levels, the tall trees' canopy is so thick that there is little undergrowth. As the trail climbs, more sunlight gets through and dense undergrowth including ferns and other bushes, takes over.
