Access to the park is free and the trail is open all year. It may be icy and slippery during the Winter months. The section shortly before you reach the Minnesota River may be flooded in the spring.
Need to Know
Restrooms are available at the trailhead in Moir Park. There are no amenities or potable water along the trail.
Description
This route starts as a paved trail in Moir Park and soon descends (stairs are an option here) to the banks of Nine Mile Creek. The paved trail follows the creek, through Central Park, over six bridges and past the site of an old mill, into River Valley Park, where it becomes a wide, gravel path.
This unpaved path takes you across a causeway between two marshes to the north bank of the Minnesota River. This is typically an easy, pleasant, and relaxing run at any time of the year. Fall colors along this path are usually spectacular. The two cautions are: (1) slippery ice and snow on the trail in the Winter months and (2) flooding of the causeway during the spring runoff.
Flora & Fauna
Bald Eagles are often present along the Minnesota River in the late Winter months.
