The park is open all year daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. but not all services within the park are necessarily open or available between these times. A daily or annual vehicle permit is required to enter the park.
Need to Know
Itasca State Park has both summer and winter maps. The description here only applies to trails shown on the summer map. Several trails are not open to hikers in the winter. Expect a muddy trail in the Spring, a lot of mosquitos and deer flies during the early and mid-summer months, and numerous ticks in late Spring and early summer. Best time to visit is late September through October.
Description
The Red Pine Trail leaves the
Deer Lake Trail near backcountry campsite B10 and goes southeast past campsites B07, 08, and 09 and a junction with the
Myrtle Lake Crossover Trail. It passes, and provides access to, Myrtle Lake and Budd Lake before ending at a junction with the
Ozawindib Trail near Arco Lake. In the summer, it is mostly a green tunnel, which gives you a real feel for how lush the north woods are in the warmer months.
