Description

The East section of the Cutthroat Trail is a historic route that has seen some reroutes in recent years. While you'll run along some sections of the historic route that are little more than cow trails through the meadows and forest, the newer reroutes create fantastic benchcut singletrack along the mountainside, with one notable section dropping into a narrow canyon and crossing a rushing stream.

Along the trail, breaks in the trees provide beautiful views of the mountains across the valley. In the fall, some sections of aspens along the trail provide beautiful fall colors.

The east section of the Cutthroat Trail ends at the Sig Creek campground. Supposedly a western section of the trail will be built to connect to the Hermosa Creek trailhead, but at the end of 2023, the trail build was behind schedule and not yet completed.
