Description
The trail winds through cultivated terraces and arid fields as it begins to ascend gradually.
The trail is rocky and exposed, with sparse vegetation such as sagebrush and acacia trees dotting the landscape. As you gain elevation, the village and cultivated fields fade into the distance, replaced by rugged, barren terrain. Tizi n'Tazazert Pass is the first major climb of the trek, reaching an elevation of approximately 2,200 meters.
The ascent is steep and involves switchbacks. At the pass, runners are rewarded with panoramic views of jagged peaks, rocky plateaus, and distant valleys.
After crossing Tizi n'Tazazert, the trail descends gradually toward Azib Almo n'Ourag, a grazing area traditionally used by Berber nomads. The terrain becomes more rugged, with volcanic rock formations and dry riverbeds characterizing the landscape. Along the way, runners may encounter herds of goats and sheep, often accompanied by nomadic herders.
Azib Almo n'Ourag is a plateau surrounded by dramatic rock outcrops, providing an ideal location for camping.
The area is quiet and remote, with expansive views of the surrounding landscape. It serves as a base for acclimatization and exploration of the nearby peaks and valleys.
