Geological Significance · Views
As per USFS rules, dogs have to be leashed or under control (i.e. training collar or equivalent) at all times.
Overview
Photographers point is a popular day hike which takes about 4 hours round trip. Most of the trail climbs through the sub-alpine forest on easy trail that slowly ascends in elevation. At
Photographers Point, the high northern peaks noticeably stand out (Fremont and Gannett Peak) with glacially carved terrain in the foreground. This is a great day hike if traveling through Pinedale.
Need to Know
For the best photos, hike this trail during a clear or mildly cloudy day. Gray rock and clouds have little contrast.
Description
Start at Elkhart Park trailhead and follow
Pole Creek Trail. The trail slowly ascends the sub-alpine forest for 4.5 miles. Due to this area's popularity, you'll most likely share the trail with other hikers, backpackers, and horseback riders. Eventually you'll see a sign for Photographer's Point and follow a spur trail for a short distance. Once at the overlook, the view suddeny opens to reveal a large region of the northern range.
