Marsh Billings Rockefeller National Historical Park is open from sunrise to sunset throughout the year.
Need to Know
There are no restrooms or services along this trail, so if you need to use the restroom, get water, or snacks, you need to do this at the Visitor Center or at the Billings Farm and Museum.
Runner Notes
This is a short trail that can be combined with the
Mountain Road Trail for a longer run. This trail is less busy, so a nice alternative to the heavier travelled
Mountain Road Trail.
Description
To access the Summer Pasture Trail, the most direct way to get there is to take the
Mountain Road Trail from the entrance of the park toward the Pogue. Parking for Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park is located at the Billings Farm and Museum. Cross the road and make your way into the park. If you need to get water, maps, information about the park, or to use the restroom, continue up the hill to the visitor center.
Otherwise, take
Mountain Road Trail to the right for roughly a mile until you arrive at the junction with the Summer Pasture Trail. The trail goes through the woods before it emerges on the edge of the summer pasture. There are some nice views of the pasture as you make your way around the pasture. The trail climbs uphill at this point for a short distance before leveling out. There is a nice view of the pasture at a break in the fence line at the edge of the woods. After enjoying the view and maybe taking a photo or two, the trail enters the woods as it approaches the Pogue. It parallels the
Pogue Loop Trail before it emerges at the junction with the
Mountain Road Trail. You can turn to the right and enjoy the views of the Pogue or you can turn to the left and make your way back to your vehicle or explore other areas of the park.
