Marsh Billings Rockefeller National Historical Park is open from sunrise to sunset throughout the year.

Need to Know

There are no restrooms or services along this trail, so if you need to use the restroom, get water, or snacks, you need to do this at the Visitor Center or at the Billings Farm and Museum.

Description

To access the Pogue Brook Trail, the most direct way to get there is to take the Mountain Road Trail from the entrance of the park toward the Pogue. Parking for Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park is located at the Billings Farm and Museum. Cross the road and make your way into the park. If you need to get water, maps, information about the park, or to use the restroom, continue up the hill to the visitor center.

Otherwise, take Mountain Road Trail and pass the Pogue. Enjoy views of the Pogue and continue hiking for about a tenth of a mile until the King Farm Loop Trail breaks off to the left through the field. Walk through the field and enter the woods and go a short distance until you get to the trailhead. You can either turn to the left or continue straight ahead as this a loop that is relatively flat. For the sake of this description, continue straight and then take the first left and make your way through the woods. The trail meanders through he woods, which is a mix of conifers and deciduous trees. The conifers are red pine, for which the trail takes its name from. At roughly a quarter of a mile, the trail breaks to the left and makes its way through the woods. There are no real views in this area as the views are mostly obstructed. There is a bench at the turn where you can take a break and enjoy the forest around you. While the views are limited, there is solitude as this trail is not heavily traveled. The trail continues to loop back to where you started earlier. From here, you can go to the left along the King Farm Loop Trail, which has great views at the end, or you can make your way back to the Pogue and enjoy the views of the pond and then make your way back to your car.
